What are the Natural Disasters?

Natural DisasterNatural disasters are now a major concern of all governments worldwide. In these last years have increased the extent of the damage, already catastrophic. An earthquake, hurricane or other extreme event of nature becomes a disaster or disaster when loss of lives or economic causes. So, natural disaster it´s called only when the social or economic problem is triggered by a freak of nature. Loe Golden said "a potential danger becomes a disaster if it occurs where people live."

In the past natural disasters were signed mostly to developing countries that do not have the media to tell time to the population or the infrastructure for that. Today no country is exempt to suffer a major catastrophe.

KINDS OF NATURAL DISASTERS
Have been classified more than 20 disaster risks are capable of producing. Ranging from earthquakes to fog and mist, but the most important are:

Hydrologic stormy waves, tsunamis.

WeNatural Disasterather: Floods, hurricanes, cyclones, typhoons, tornadoes, drought, frost, hailstorms, cold waves, heat, snow or winter storm.

Geophysical: Seismic and volcanic activity, avalanches, landslides, mudslides, avalanches.

Biological: Crimson Tide (appearance on the surface of water mussels, clams, etc. Who are carriers of toxins and alter the food chain).

Can we prevent disasters?

Natural DisasterWe can not prevent the occurrence of natural phenomena. But we can make them less damaging if we understand better why they happen and what can we do to prevent or mitigate them. Taking into account that people are partly responsible for the occurrence of disasters, we must change what we are doing wrong so they can avoid or lessen the impact of natural phenomena.

Each community must learn to know its characteristics and its environment: the natural and built environment by humans. Only then can handle the threats that surround it and reduce their vulnerability to them.
